Rational Theistic Luciferianism: Short Meditations on Life

This is the tenth article in a series on Rational Theistic Luciferianism, for the other articles on Satanism see (more recent first):

    In the end you become who you make yourself to be.

    Sow a thought reap an action. Sow an action reap a habit. Sow a habit reap a character. Sow a character reap a destiny.

    This is karma. Most of your personality is comprised of habits unconscious through familiarity. Watch a toddler learn to walk, so much effort in constant balancing and rebalancing. You do the same work in walking but through practise it is completely unconscious.

    The purpose of the spiritual path is to escape the chains of karma, to step out of being ruled by unconscious habit by living in the moment. Until that becomes your habit.

    What is habitual becomes effortless.

    If they talk shit about other people to you then they talk shit about you to other people. Don't be friends with two faced people, they're only friends to themselves. Someone who will it say to your face you can trust.

    Faithful are the wounds of a friend, deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.

    As iron sharpens iron so sister sharpens sister.

    Every generation since 1900 or earlier has seen a complete change of way of life in their lifetime. Possibly twice. If you don't learn how to change, and keep on changing, of course you'll get stuck. And thereby allow yourself to become an awful person.

    How you see the world and people drifting further and further from the world around you. The world becoming more confusing and terrifying with every passing year.

    One of the tragedies of my life was watching beautiful young people I loved, full of potential, over decades deliberately turn themselves into stupid and awful people and see them cause such harm. Inexorably, unwittingly perhaps, but forewarned and deliberate.

    To see how you see the world shapes who you become, and to feel the loss of it

    Confirmation bias, motivated thinking. We're rationalising creatures and your mind works very hard to rationally justify the conclusions your emotions have already reached.

    It's why most faith is false, disingenuous. If you couldn't bring yourself to think anything else your faith isn't a decision (however much it once was), you're a hostage. Your mind is not free and the freedom you claim is a lie. A lie that seeks to ensnare others.

    That doesn't just mean conventional religion, and of course no-one thinks it applies to them; normality is a slave religion. Conventionality will drag you off to a life of everyday suffering, your own personal hell. In fact much of religion is conventionality dressed up and enforced with religious language. It won't let you deviate too far from what everyone else thinks. What everyone else thinks, the social consensus which is the little mind killer, is what holds everyone bound.

    This is why if you're not practised at changing your mind you can't find truth and you'll be stuck. And why if you can't stick to your guns in the face of a mob convinced you're wrong you can't have integrity. The social consensus is death for the individual.

    My faith, being true to what I see, has cost me a lot. I have faith in life and faith in myself.

    No-one is in control, the ship steers itself whilst the crew run around doing whatever their emotions tell them whilst they think think they're the ones in charge.

    In order for there to be a revolution the people must be free. For the people to be free there must be a revolution of the mind.

    Revolution of the mind first. Get yourself free.

    The light of truth is not the light of knowledge but the light of understanding.

    Knowledge puffs up whilst love builds up.

    With the absolute failure of the imperial nation obvious to all in the retreat from Afghanistan we again see the myth of the might of force, the legend of the might of Rome, give way to a people's army. An abhorrent one alas. But still.

    The rule of force gave way to the rule of law. The rule of law is built on the rule of force. The rule of law will give way to the rule of love. The rule of love is built on the rule of law.

    Voluntary social structures where if you will not love you cannot remain.

    Democratic Socialism. Radical Inclusion. Love is the law.

    Nasadiya Sukta, a Hindu Veda. The hymn of non-Eternity, origin of universe:

    There was neither non-existence nor existence then;
    Neither the realm of space, nor the sky which is beyond;
    What stirred? Where? In whose protection?

    There was neither death nor immortality then;
    No distinguishing sign of night nor of day;
    That One breathed, windless, by its own impulse;
    Other than that there was nothing beyond.

    Darkness there was at first, by darkness hidden;
    Without distinctive marks, this all was water;
    That which, becoming, by the void was covered;
    That One by force of heat came into being;

    Who really knows? Who will here proclaim it?
    Whence was it produced? Whence is this creation?
    Gods came afterwards, with the creation of this universe.
    Who then knows whence it has arisen?

    Whether God's will created it, or whether He was mute;
    Perhaps it formed itself, or perhaps it did not;
    Only He who is its overseer in highest heaven knows,

    Only He knows, or perhaps He does not know.

    —Rigveda 10.129 (Abridged, Tr: Kramer / Christian)

    As beast like as we truly are we contain the essence of the divine.

    Divinity, sacred, holy, worship; these are human words for the best of the human capacity and experience. Which is why to make such a work of ugliness from them is such a blasphemy and brings its own curse upon itself.

    It's not my responsibility but it may be my business.

    People create a crazy version of you based on their own prejudices and then get upset by their own fiction and blame you and you absolutely can't care about that, other than to be aware that it's a bad thing on their part. But it's not your job to fix it - that's how people manipulate you.

    Put it this way perhaps. I care what people think about me but I don't take the blame for other people's thoughts. If people think bad things of me, or judge me as a bad person, I think that tells me about their character. If they spread that attitude around then their bad character becomes my business.

    How you see people is a moral issue. How people see me is a moral issue, for me. It's part of how I judge people's morals and that's important to me.

    I've also been *really* hurt by other people's evil opinions of me. Especially, but not limited to abuse as an adolescent and then living with a controlling judgemental cult in a controlling and judgemental religion that nonetheless I found beauty in. I've worked out how to live true to myself, in the face of other people's judgement and to like myself despite their judgement.

    Not taking responsibility for other people's evil imaginations is part of that. It's powerful and useful and necessary if you want to stand for something. People use evil judgement, and spread it around, against people who stand for opinions and causes they disagree with.

    This is why the social conditioning is to not really stand for anything, not make any waves and not upset people. And nothing changes.

    So if you want to be a person who stands for something you to have to be able to cope with being judged. You have to learn what sort of people it is who judge.

    And it's only in standing for something that you become someone. So it's necessary for life really. I reckon.

    Do you force them to obey or do you teach them to be free?

    The hardest thing in the world is working out who you are. The most important job of a parent is to help their children work out who they are for themselves.

    Such a lot of mental illness, especially depression, comes from being made to be something you are not.

    How much do you protect the lies people tell themselves? Completely, if they'll protect the lies you tell yourself. That's the deal.

    It all comes due some day, but the routine has eaten your life and the rut has grown bigger and you can't imagine facing the pain of climbing out. Not valuing and honouring truth in your life is its own reward in the end.

    Break your social conditioning. Stand up to the mob and be a free person, an individual. Someone who knows what they think and dares to say it.

    Monogamy is a religion. Ethical non-monogamy can be beautiful.

    Drugs really can open your mind and bring healing, or just pleasure.

    Defy authority, or stay a slave to the social rules that hold everyone in their place.

    People who think they're nice repress their nasty side, they don't see it. They reserve it for concern and disapproval and being offended.

    It's not nastiness, it's not judgement, it's not rejection and exclusion; it's concern and disapproval and being offended. Which of course is your right.

    Niceness is two faced and won't say what it thinks. Niceness does not value honesty and can't learn when people are lying. The path to your own personal hell is paved with not saying what you mean.

    Saying what you mean is an art, especially when it makes you uncomfortable. You get better at it the same way you get to Carnegie Hall.

    Lots of things about quantum mechanics and relativity, theoretical physics, are mind-blowing. Reality is stranger than you can possibly imagine. Here's a few things worth knowing from theoretical physics:

    You have to leave it a mystery. Any attempt to pin reality down is futile and destined to failure.

    Fundamental reality is chaos and uncertainty and I love her with all my heart.

    Quantum physics is based on the standard model, originally conceived by Niels Bohr and co. But to make it work they keep having to discover new particles and whatever they look for they seem to discover. And it doesn't account for gravity and isn't compatible with special relativity.

    There's also quantum entanglement, which is a whole world of weird all of its own.

    String theory, and the multiple versions of string theory, no-one can make the math quite work, they all posit multiple (but all odd numbers) hidden (curled up all tiny) dimensions of space. None of them are testable, so they can't be proven, and yet some of the string theory math is useful and has applications.

    The quantum equations really do require an observer (to collapse the probability waves) which many people are not very happy about. The fundamental maths of the universe appears to require consciousness for anything to exist at all. And they've just proven you can measure simultaneous incompatible versions of reality at the quantum level. There is no single objective reality!

    This video teaches you about string theory, and then watch everything Kurzgesagt have ever made!

    At the quantum level things can teleport. Quantum teleportation. And it's a real problem for the fabrication of semiconductors at the nanometer level. Because electrons can teleport across a closed transistor gate.

    All matter exists as a probability wave. And all matter is almost entirely empty space anyway. It's electromagnetic repulsion that makes things seem solid. We can perceive only a small fragment of the spectrum of electromagnetic radiation. We do not perceive reality as she really is!

    Empty space is a seething mass of energy at the quantum level. Virtual particles flitting in and out of existence in pairs of matter and antimatter and obliterating each other and the net effect on the universe is zero.

    This is what allows the entire universe to just pop into existence one day by sheer chance so long as another day it all disappears again.

    Measured and proven by the kasimir effect and is the basis of hawking radiation which is how black holes shrink and how they also conform to information theory by radiating back out what they once absorbed. Although changed forever of course.

    Wave/particle duality (proving matter exists as probably waves) is demonstrated by the two slit experiment if you remember your physics.

    At the opposite end there's relativity. Velocity is relative between observers, every point is the centre of the universe. And yet the speed of light is fixed, constant and unchanging, for all observers.

    Which means time itself is relative between observers and we're all on our own timeline.

    My favourite joke. Heisenberg and Schrödinger are driving in a car together. Heisenberg driving too fast in the freeway they're flagged down by a cop.

    The cop approaches and Heisenberg winds down the window. "Do you know how fast you were going?" the cop asks. "No" replies Heisenberg. "But I know exactly where I am."

    The cop is not impressed and goes to look in the trunk. "Do you know you've got a dead cat in here" he exclaims. "Well I have now asshole" Schrödinger retorts.

    "Out of sync with your body's own ability to sleep, nights are wakeful terrors and days pass by in a blur half remembered and not very real. Your days have become the dream and the night is real."
